Hi! I hope you are enjoying this special blog hop by the Altenew Educators. We decided to share our secret hacks to create beautiful cards! You should have arrived here from Bridget Casey's blog.
I created a card using one of my favorite styles - a bold background combined with silhouettes.
There are several ways to create bold backgrounds. One of my favorites is the Retiform technique. This is a grid technique where we draw lines across paper and add color. For this card, I used the Tropical Fiesta Watercolor Brush Markers in shades Fresh Lemon, Lime and Turquoise. I colored stripes of color in one direction. After drying my panel, I turned it 90° and colored again. This gives a lovely, plaid like effect to the panel. I also added some distressing by sprinkling droplets of water.
Once the panel was dry, I trimmed it and rounded the corners. For the silhouette images, I used the Bird of Paradise stamps and dies. The sentiment is from the Victorian Greenhouse stamp set.
I hope you liked my card and will give the retiform technique a try.
